MY STORY

I am a strong believer that you can’t teach someone to swim if you’ve never swum yourself, and believe me I have swum a fair few lengths and got out of my depth more times than I care to remember.

I had a good upbringing and a loving family, but school life and adulthood proved problematic. By the time I had reached my mid-thirties I had endured all of the following: Bullying, Crash diets/Laxative abuse, Loss of my mother at an early age, Alcohol addiction, OCD, Panic attacks, Insomnia, Generalised Anxiety Disorder/Agoraphobia, Excessive weight gain, Endometriosis and Hormone Imbalance.

Suffice to say after all of these obstacles my confidence was in tatters, I was people pleasing where I could, I over performed at home and at work to get some form of acknowledgement and my mental and physical state was impacted by my addiction to sugar and alcohol which kept me numb from it all. The ironic thing is if you had spoken to any of my friends, they would have told you I was the life and soul of the party and really had it together.

The final straw came for me when I collapsed in a restaurant whilst on holiday with family, at the time I had no idea what had caused it. Unfortunately, we were on day two of a two-week holiday, so I had to piece together a further twelve days fearing another collapse everywhere we went. My panic attacks were so severe it affected my sight, I suffered Vertigo and occasional loss of sensation in my legs. Once we returned home my condition worsened and I was later diagnosed with a Generalised Anxiety Disorder which led on to Agoraphobia.

The next three months were unbearable, I couldn’t go to work, I felt my mind wasn’t my own, doctors were prescribing medication left, right and centre and the insomnia meant I was starting each day already at a disadvantage. It was at this point I figured I had hit rock bottom and in a last ditch attempt I got on Google and stumbled upon an Anxiety retreat. That Anxiety retreat was the turning point for me and gave me my life back.

Since the retreat I am now like a sponge for information on Health and Wellbeing, I am off all medication, I have revamped my job and lifestyle choices. I enrolled on a number of different courses and I am fully certified as a Counsellor / Life coach / NLP practitioner specialising in Anxiety, Health and Nutrition.

Now when I look back, I am very thankful for my ‘wakeup call’ as it gave me the opportunity to re-evaluate my choices instead of settling for a lifestyle that did not serve me.
